Abstract
Using an optical method a surface wave is detected ‘in situ’, which is the reflection from an immersed plane metallic surface, of an ultrasonic beam propagating in water. The amplitude and attenuation of the beam are measured on a stainless steel sample and it is shown that the attenuation fits the f4 law, where f is the frequency.
